A comprehensive approach to autism intervention

Dear Parents, Caregivers, and Colleagues,

Thank you for your interest in the Autism Center for Education! The center was founded due to my desire to bring the Austin community increased access to quality, research based, individualized treatment programs that utilize the principles of applied behavior analysis (ABA). It is my hope that by providing a supervision consultation model and increasing access to quality training for parents and behavioral staff, more families will have the opportunity to provide their children with the intensive 1:1 intervention that current research indicates children need to achieve best outcomes. In addition, by working collaboratively with families, school districts, and other professionals in the community, I believe the children will be given the best opportunity for a comprehensive and consistent program across all environments.

In the following pages, I have provided a brief overview of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and how it can be applied to children with autism. Following this information you will find a description of the services that are provided by the Autism Center for Education and various resources (e.g., recommended readings, tips on recruiting staff, etc.) you may find useful. Fortunately, the number of ABA providers in the Austin community is growing. When researching your options, it is important that you know what questions to ask so that you can make the best choice for your child and family. For this reason I have included a checklist for evaluating & comparing ABA Programs that guides you through several important questions when considering providers. Again, thank you for your interest in Autism Center for Education. I look forward to the opportunity!

Sincerely,
